The Los Angeles Galaxy visited Colorado on Sunday looking to move closer to the top of the Western Conference playoff picture. For LA, the game would mark the return of David Beckham following a foot injury in September. It would also provide another game for Landon Donovan to get into top form following his injury as well.
In the 10th minute, the Galaxy would grasp the early lead off of a throw-in. The ball was played to Robbie Keane and his shot was blocked by the Colorado defense. However, the ball rolled back to Marcelo Sarvas just outside the box and he quickly decided to have a go on goal. Sarvas would not disappoint, as he ripped the net in the upper left corner of goal for a 1-0 Galaxy lead.
It would not take long for Colorado to equalize, as they scored in the 16th minute. Hunter Freeman made a ground cross into the box and Jaime Castrillon scored with a low-driven shot for his 8th goal of the year.
In the 30th minute, injury would strike the LA Galaxy, as AJ DeLaGarza suffered a knee sprain. He will be re-evaluated in Los Angeles this week.
Near the end of the game, both goalkeepers, Matt Pickens of Colorado and Josh Saunders of LA, made fantastic saves to hold the score at 1-1 and secure a point for their respective teams.
With the point, the Galaxy are now holding onto third place in the Western Conference and are just 2 points behind Real Salt Lake for second place. The Galaxy will host RSL at the Home Depot Center this Saturday night in a hugely important game with playoff implications as the MLS heads into its final month of regular season play.
