Week 12 in the NFL will begin with a Thursday night matchup featuring two traditional AFC West rivals headed in opposite directions, as the Kansas City Chiefs (7-3) will visit the Oakland Raiders (0-10) at 5:25 PT.
Kansas City enters Week 12 as winners of seven of its past eight games, including a 24-20 victory over the defending champion Seattle Seahawks last week.
“The team is excited about the win,” said Kansas City head coach Andy Reid. “But they also know we are getting on a plane to fly out and play a good Oakland team on Thursday. We’ve got to make sure we enjoy this, but we have to get ourselves back and ready to go quickly and we understand that.”
In his first two seasons as head coach of the Chiefs, Reid has led Kansas City to an 18-8 (.692) record in his first 26 games, on pace to be the top winning percentage in franchise history for a coach in his first two seasons with the team.
Chiefs star running back Jamaal Charles rushed for 159 yards on 20 carries (8.0 average) with two touchdowns in that win. He now has nine career 150-yard rushing games, tied with Priest Holmes and Larry Johnson for the most such games in franchise history.
Oakland's winless season has been a disaster by all accounts, although the Raiders enter this week having at least played in a competitive manner in a 13-6 loss to San Diego.
“It was a tough loss, but you have to stay positive,” said Raiders safety Charles Woodson, who had a game-high 14 tackles against the Chargers. “We have another game on a short week this Thursday night against a division opponent, so we just put this one behind us.”
Now in his 17th season, Woodson currently leads Oakland with 74 tackles and two interceptions. He is tied with Pro Football Hall of Famer Emmitt Thomas (58) for 11th on the all-time interception list.
On offense, rookie quarterback Derek Carr (Round 2, No. 36 overall) has been a bright spot, leading all rookies this season with 2,075 passing yards and 13 touchdowns, both of which are franchise rookie records.
