NFL Week 6 Thursday Game Preview: Giants (2-3) at Patriots (5-0)

Week 6 of the NFL is sure to thrill with a rematch of Super Bowls XLII and XLVI when the New York Giants visit the unbeaten New England Patriots.  Although the Giants won both Super Bowls in 2008 and 2012, the Patriots hold the all-time series advantage, 6-4, including edging the Giants, 27-26, in their last meeting in 2015.

Raiders' Vontaze Burfict suspended for season

The NFL brought the hammer down on Oakland Raiders' linebacker Vontaze Burfict, as the league announced that he has been suspended without pay for the remainder of the 2019 season, including all postseason games.  The league stated in a release that the suspension was for repeated violations of unnecessary roughness rules, including in Sunday’s game against the Indianapolis Colts.

Colts sign quarterback Jacoby Brissett to extension

The Indianapolis Colts moved to secure their future at the quarterback position following the surprise retirement of star Andrew Luck, as the team signed his promising backup, Jacoby Brissett, to a contract extension.  Other outlets have reported that the deal is worth $30 million over two years, with $20 million guaranteed.

NFL reinstates wide receiver Josh Gordon

With the retirement of tight end Rob Gronkowski, New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady has been in need of another big play weapon.

Help is now on the way, as Commissioner Roger Goodell notified talented Patriots' wide receiver Josh Gordon that he will be reinstated to the NFL on a conditional basis.

Chiefs' Tyreek Hill will not be suspended

Kansas City Chiefs star wide receiver will not be suspended after the NFL concluded that Hill did not violate the league's conduct policy.

Dallas Cowboys' Elliott will not be suspended

The Dallas Cowboys avoided a major blow to their playoff hopes when they learned that star running back Ezekiel Elliott will not be suspended by the NFL for a Las Vegas incident in which he bumped a security guard.

NFL announces 2019 Thursday Night Football schedule

The NFL Network and FOX announced the 2019 Thursday Night Football schedule, consisting of 13 games overall.  The schedule features 11 FOX games which are to be simulcast on NFL Network and Amazon Prime Video, in addition to two NFL Network exclusive games.

NFL Network and RedZone are removed from DirecTV Now and U-Verse

As of this week, the NFL Network and NFL RedZone will no longer be available to AT&T U-Verse subscribers or DirecTV Now subscribers.  For some fans in Los Angeles who already lack access to the Dodgers' channel and the Pac-12 Network, such disputes between massive corporate entities is unfortunately becoming far too familiar.

Patriots sign receiver Demaryius Thomas

The New England Patriots added another target for quarterback Tom Brady to help offset the loss of star tight end Rob Gronkowski to retirement, as the team announced that it signed free agent wideout Demaryius Thomas.  In addition, the team also re-signed restricted free agent defensive back Jonathan Jones.

Dallas Cowboys acquire defensive end Robert Quinn from Dolphins

The Dallas Cowboys shored up some of the uncertainty along their defensive line today, acquiring defensive end Robert Quinn from the Miami Dolphins in exchange for a 2020 sixth-round draft pick.

Quinn proved last year that he still has something left in the tank, as he started all 16 games for Miami, recording 38 tackles (25 solo), 6.5 sacks, and two forced fumbles.

The Cowboys are in need of someone who can pressure the quarterback, as defensive linemen Randy Gregory, David Irving, and DeMarcus Lawrence all have their own various question marks.  Gregory is under suspension from the NFL, and Irving recently retired from the sport.  Meanwhile, Lawrence, a genuine elite defensive star, could be a potential contract holdout.

The price for the proven veteran Quinn was a relatively cheap late round draft pick.

Quinn has played in 111 career games with 92 starts and has 69 sacks. He originally entered the NFL as a first-round pick (14th overall) by St. Louis in the 2011 NFL draft.

In a win-win scenario for local fans, the NFL announced that it will move the Kansas City Chiefs-Los Angeles Rams showdown on Monday, November 19, originally located at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City to the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum in Los Angeles.

Patriots acquire wide receiver Josh Gordon in deal with Browns

In a move to add a depth threat to the New England attack, the Patriots announced that they have acquired talented wide receiver Josh Gordon in a trade with the Cleveland Browns.  Other outlets have reported that the Patriots gave up a 2019 fifth round pick in the deal, but could receive back a seventh rounder in 2019 if Gordon is not active for a specified number of games.

The New England Patriots added another weapon for quarterback Tom Brady, announcing that they have signed veteran wide receiver Eric Decker.  Other outlets have reported that the deal is for one year.
