TheDailySportsHerald.com's 3-man boxing panel has updated their votes for the sport's ten best boxers, pound-for-pound. Here are the results:
1. JUAN MANUEL MARQUEZ (50-4-1, 37 KOs)
For now, Marquez deserves this spot after his impressive knockout of Juan Diaz in Houston. Hopefully his next fight will be against either Pacquiao, Hatton, or Mayweather.
2. MANNY PACQUIAO (48-3-2, 37 KOs)
Pacquiao will deservedly take back the top spot if he impressively defeats Ricky Hatton on May 2. Until then, he can live in Marquez's shadow for a bit.
3. BERNARD HOPKINS (49-5-1, 32 KOs)
His dominant win over Kelly Pavlik was the shocker of 2008, but what is next for B-Hop? It looks like he wants Tomasz Adamek and the Cruiserweight Title. Expect him to be wearing that belt within the next 6 months.
4. SHANE MOSLEY (46-5, 39 KOs)
Mosley probably has frightened all other decent fighters after his crushing knockout of Antonio Margarito. He deserves a big-time fight, but who has the guts to give it to him?
5. PAUL WILLIAMS (36-1, 27 KOs)
The fight with Winky Wright will be more interesting than people think. Winky Wright is one of the most underrated boxer's of his era and their is no reason to simply assume he is finished. Williams deserves credit for taking this matchup.
6. CHAD DAWSON (27-0, 17 KOs)
Can anything else go wrong for this young superstar? First, he wastes his time by taking a rematch with Antonio Tarver . . . and then he gets injured. This delay will only make us have to wait longer until we see him in a really good fight.
7. ISRAEL VAZQUEZ (43-4, 31 KOs)
Vazquez's injuries hopefully won't keep him out any longer. If they do, we will unfortunately have to consider dropping him from the list.
8. RAFAEL MARQUEZ (37-5, 33 KOs)
Marquez too needs to remind us of how good he is in his next fight. Of course, it wouldn't hurt if that next fight was Vazquez-Marquez IV.
9. MIGUEL COTTO (33-1, 27KOs)
In light of the information we have learned about Antonio Margarito, fans should seriously re-evaluate the Cotto-Margarito fight. Perhaps if Margarito was fighting fair, Cotto just easily cruises to a 12 round decision?
10. JOSHUA CLOTTEY (35-2, 20 KOs)
Clottey's upcoming fight with Cotto will show many people how good this guy really is. His tough chin alone will pose a problem for Cotto.
