Arizona wins 2017 Pac-12 Tournament with 83-80 victory over Oregon

March 12, 2017

Allonzo Trier scored 23 points and hit four free throws in the final 17 seconds, helping No. 7 Arizona outlast No. 5 Oregon, 83-80, on Saturday night in the Pac-12 Tournament championship game.

Oregon (29-5) received bad news before tipoff, learning that athletic senior forward Chris Boucher would miss the remainder of the season with a torn ACL that he sustained in the semifinals against California.  The injury occurred late in the first half when the 6'10" Boucher was battling for a rebound and fell awkwardly to the floor.

Boucher is Oregon’s third-leading scorer this season at 11.1 points per game, and No. 2 rebounder at 6.1 per game. He leads the Pac-12 in blocked shots, averaging 2.6 per game, which also ranks 17th nationally.

The Ducks struggled early before rallying in the second half, as Dillon Brooks finished with 25 points and Tyler Dorsey added 23.

Arizona took advantage of Boucher's absence by attacking the rim, hitting 13 of 26 shots to lead 35-29 at halftime.

Brooks carried the Ducks almost by himself, scoring 17 first-half points.

Still, the Wildcats proved to be better defensively, building a 14-point lead while also shooting 58 percent to hold off Oregon's second-half charge.

The Ducks finally started to hit shots and disrupted Arizona's offense with full-court pressure, cutting the lead to 60-56 midway through.

The Wildcats missed four free throws in the final minute to allow Oregon to pull within two, but Trier sealed it with his free throws.
