UNLV Lady Rebels fall to Gonzaga at home

Las Vegas, Nevada -- The UNLV Lady Rebels came up short in their third attempt at securing their first win of the season, dropping a closer-than-the-score-indicated 70-59 contest to the visiting Gonzaga Bulldogs at Cox Pavilion on Saturday.

Coach Kathy Olivier's UNLV squad did show some competitiveness and resiliency in cutting a near double-digit lead to as little as a pair of baskets, as Gonzaga saw their once sizable lead diminish late in the third quarter.

However, the Bulldogs were paced by the steady scoring of Zykera Rice and Jessie Loera, as Gonzaga had four players score in double figures.

Veteran post presence Katie Powell led the Lady Rebels in scoring, just narrowly missing her first double-double of the season by tallying 16 points and nine rebounds.  Curiously enough, Powell was the only UNLV player to score in double figures.

The Rebels have an extended period off until their next game and will likely use the time to work on creating a more balanced attack.  The Lady Rebels are off until the week after Thanksgiving, when they will host and play in the Lady Rebel Round-Up at Cox November 24-25.
