Ladanian Tomlinson Signs 2-Year Deal with the New York Jets
TRUTH: Will the change of environment revitalize LT’s career? It probably will to a certain extent, but Tomlinson won’t make the New York fans forget the real LT – Lawrence Taylor.

Lebron’s 30 Points Help Cavs Cruise Past Celtics, 104-93
TRUTH: Allen scored 20, Garnett had 18, Pierce contributed 18, and Rondo added 16 – yet even when all the Celtics stars play decent, they are appeared out of their league against the Shaq-less Cavaliers. The separation in the East is becoming more apparent as the season goes on.

Pete Sampras and Andre Agassi Embarrass Each Other in a Charity Doubles Match While Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal Watch in Disbelief
TRUTH: The moment was both uncomfortable and priceless. After ribbing Sampras during a doubles match for getting “serious,” Agassi appeared unnerved when Sampras responded by imitating his walk for the crowd. Agassi came back with a slightly mean-spirited comment about Sampras being cheap and not tipping very well – referencing a time when he paid a valet only a $1 tip. Federer, playing with Sampras, commented to Nadal across the net, “This rivalry is intense, man. I mean, Rafa, start. Do something.”

Sampras then responded by hitting the next serve at Agassi and asking, half-jokingly, “That’s the way you want to play it?” Again Agassi came back: “You know what, it’s better than being a valet driver and you pulling up.”

Agassi came across as childish and a bit cruel, while Sampras looked uncomfortable and unable to roll with the punches smoothly. Neither looked good and both still seemed consumed by the pettiness that partly defined their rivalry.

March Madness Brackets Are Set – Kansas, Kentucky, Syracuse, and Duke Are the #1 Seeds
TRUTH: There are plenty of teams complaining about not getting in….for my money the best team not in the tournament is Mississippi State. Having seen them early in the season at the Wooden Classic it is mindboggling to imagine they are not one of the top 65 teams in the country. Kentucky was extremely lucky to beat them in the SEC Tournament Final…the Bulldogs performance in that game should have cemented their tournament birth.

Oh yeah, please ask Seth Davis and Greg Anthony of CBS what they were smoking on Saturday when they said that Cal needed to win the Pac-10 Tournament to get an NCAA birth. Cal lost 79-75 in the final, but rightly got a #8 seed anyway. Even in a weak year winning the Pac-10 regular season means you are not close to being “on the bubble” – wake up guys.

Kansas may have the toughest bracket despite being the overall #1 seed. Duke is generally regarded as having the easiest schedule despite being the least worthy of the #1 seeds. The more things change, the more they stay the same . . .

Manny Pacquiao Dominates Joshua Clottey for a 12-Round Decision in Front of More Than 50,000 Fans in Dallas
TRUTH: Clottey appeared satisfied with merely surviving against Pac-Man, although the suggestions that he was simply afraid to fight are a bit unfair. Clottey has always had the problem of not throwing enough punches, and against the non-stop Pacquiao this problem became all the more glaring. Clottey actually landed several good shots on Pacquiao, but Pacquiao took them all.

You had to wonder if Floyd Mayweather Jr. learned anything from watching this fight. Although he is a much better fighter than Clottey in almost every way, Mayweather too has a tendency to limit his punch output. Will he be able win enough rounds by relying on his high accuracy percentage.

Then again, Mayweather shouldn’t waste too much time thinking about Pacquiao at all or he may find himself flat on his back from a Shane Mosley right hand on May 1st. Pacquiao-Mayweather would be a great event. Pacquiao-Mosley would be a great fight.

  1. I just want to say I’m really excited about the 2010 NCAA Men’s College Basketball tournament. I try to enter as many free March Madness contests online at various sites. When I fill out the brackets, it’s rare for me to have two that are the same. However, if I could only fill out one bracket, I’d have Kansas, Syracuse, West Virginia, and Baylor in the Final Four. I’d put Syracuse and West Virginia in the championship game, with Syracuse winning. It should be an interesting tournament though.

  2. We could not agree more. No other event in sports can match the unpredictability and excitement of March Madness.

All 4 of those picks are strong. Baylor has great athletic ability, while West Virginia and Kansas have the future NBA star power. Syracuse is a tough matchup with that zone, and Wesley Johnson has been the real deal all year.

Best of luck with your brackets!
