Blake Griffin & John Wall Named NBA Rookies of the Month

April 1, 2011

One day after being suspended by the NBA league office for throwing a closed fist, Washington Wizards rookie point guard John Wall today received the good news that he has been named Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month for March.

Wall ranked third among all rookies in scoring (18.1 ppg), first in assists (7.3 apg) and first in steals (1.67 spg). In a March 23 contest versus the Los Angeles Clippers, Wall became the first Washington rookie to record at least 32 points, 10 assists, and five rebounds in a game since Earl Monroe in 1968.

In addition, the NBA has announced that Clippers phenom Blake Griffin today has been named the Western Conference Rookie of the Month for March.

Griffin led all rookies in scoring (20.5 ppg), rebounding (10.4 rpg), and tied for second in assists (4.3 apg). He is the only player in the league averaging at least 20 points, 12 rebounds and three assists. Griffin also had a monster performance versus the Wizards on March 23, producing a triple-double of 33 points, 17 rebounds, and 10 assists.

Other nominees included Detroit’s Greg Monroe, Houston’s Patrick Patterson, Sacramento’s DeMarcus Cousins, and Washington’s Jordan Crawford.
