Pac-12 Media Day: Stanford and Oregon

July 24, 2012

Universal City, CA - Stanford and Oregon round out the Pac-12's Media Day...

STANFORD

First year head coach David Shaw expressed confidence that Stanford would be a strong contender in the Pac-12 this season.  He noted that the offensive line was especially impressive.

Senior RB Stepfan Taylor was described by his coach as the most underrated running back in the nation.  Shaw also said he already spoke with the new candidates for the QB position at Stanford in the post-Andrew Luck era and told them, "Don't try to be Andrew Luck - because you can't!"

OREGON

Head coach Chip Kelly noted that only 10 seniors were on last year's team and only 16 seniors are on this year's team, suggesting Oregon has a strong future.  Several questions were about athletic sophomore RB/WR De'Anthony Thomas who Kelly hoped would have a big impact on the season.

LB Michael Clay talked about the Ducks defensive speed and the increased physical conditioning they have from simply going against the Oregon offense in practice.

Quote of the Day:

RB Kenjon Barner about the pressure of replacing LaMichael James: "Pressure is what you feel when you don't know what you're doing."
