The WBA super bantamweight title fight between undefeated defending champion Guillermo Rigondeaux and former champion Poonsawat Kratingdaenggym has been canceled from this Saturday's Nonita Donaire-Jorge Arce card in Houston, Texas.
"The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation notified us today that they would not issue a license to Poonsawat Kratingdaenggym," said promoter Bob Arum. "I feel very badly for both fighters who trained very hard. Top Rank's matchmakers are working with HBO to returning Guillermo back to the ring as soon as possible."
Rigondeaux versus Kratingdaenggym was scheduled to precede the Donaire-Arce main event. Still, the WBO junior featherweight title bout between Donaire and Arce will go on as scheduled. The HBO telecast of the fight will open with the exclusive replay of last week's Pacquiao-Marquez 4 instant classic.
A quick return to the ring for Rigondeaux would be nice, but should Donaire win as expected, the boxing public would much rather see Top Rank's matchmakers strive toward making a Nonito Donaire-Abner Mares fight happen.
