LA Lakers' World Peace suspended

February 5, 2013

Metta World Peace of the Los Angeles Lakers has been suspended by the NBA for one game for grabbing Brandon Knight of the Detroit Pistons around the neck and striking him lightly in the jaw with the back of his open hand.

The incident occurred with 1:43 remaining in the second period of the Lakers’ 98-97 road win over the Detroit Pistons on Sunday, February 3.

World Peace will serve his suspension tonight when the Lakers visit the Brooklyn Nets at Barclays Center.

With Metta out of the lineup, expect Devin Ebanks, Antawn Jamison, and Earl Clark to fill in by committee, with Kobe Bryant also playing some occasional minutes at the 3 as well.

This relative non-incident is the type of jostling that often occurs when players fight for rebounding position, but typically warrants no more than a technical foul. It appears however, that Metta still is a marked man in the eyes of the NBA's brass, as such wrestling likely would not have drawn a suspension had some other player been involved.
