Just weeks after announcing its highly-publicized signing of Chinese Olympic star Zou Shiming, Top Rank inked another fighter who, unlike Shiming, already has made an impact at the professional level in middleweight contender Gilberto "Zurdo" Ramirez.
The undefeated Ramírez (24-0, 19 KOs), from Mazatlán, México, captured the WBC Youth middleweight title in 2010 and has successfully defended it six times.
"This is a huge signing for Top Rank," said Hall of Fame promoter Bob Arum. "The sky is the limit for Gilberto. I expect him to have a glorious reign as world champion."
Ramírez, 21, is currently ranked fourth by the WBC and sixth by the WBA. He is a former Méxican Junior National Champion and a three-time National Méxican National Amateur Champion in the Elite Division.
