The Los Angeles Angels already suspect starting rotation was dealt a setback today as ace right-hander Jered Weaver was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a left non displaced radial head fracture (elbow). Although he is expected to miss at least four weeks, the good news is that the injury did not occur to his throwing arm.
Weaver, 30, suffered the injury Sunday evening in Texas while avoiding a sixth-inning line drive off the bat of Mitch Moreland. Though the ball did not strike the Angels star, he nevertheless twisted his left elbow and arm in bracing his fall as he avoided the line drive.
The club also announced that right-handed pitcher Dane De La Rosa has been selected to the roster from Triple-A Salt Lake, and that lefty Andrew Taylor has been transferred from the 15-day DL to the 60-day list (left shoulder labrum tear).
De La Rosa, 30, was acquired from Tampa Bay last March 27 in exchange for righty Steven Geltz. He spent the majority of the 2012 season playing for Tampa Bay’s Triple-A affiliate Durham Bulls.
