May 16, 2013

Manchester City Football Club has named Patrick Vieira as the new Head of the Elite Development Squad. He previously served two years as City’s Football Development Executive.

"After spending two years working across a number of areas of the Club and with a particular focus on the Youth Academy, I feel honored and privileged to have been offered this role," said Vieira. "This marks a new chapter both in my career and in my life and I am looking forward to it immensely. My passion for the development of young talent has only grown in my time at City and I am pleased to be able to play my part in helping to shape the footballing future for Manchester City."

The Elite Development Squad currently play in the Under 21 Premier League. In 2014, it will be based at the City Football Academy, which is presently under construction on an 80-acre site adjacent to the Etihad Stadium.

Vieira’s prolific playing career includes winning five FA Cups and nine league titles. His 107 caps for France include winning performances in the 1998 FIFA World Cup and 2000 UEFA European Championships. During his time as a Man City player, he helped win the FA Cup Final in May 2011.

"Patrick is a world champion and it is a great honor that he has chosen Manchester City to begin his football management career," said Ferran Soriano. "I have seen him carefully considering options and choosing to coach for the best reasons; he has a love of the game and a willingness to continue to learn and transmit his knowledge and experience to young footballers."

During the past two years, Vieira was able to secure his UEFA B coaching license. He is currently working to secure his UEFA A license.

I say, keep the team in Hollywood, but rename them to the "Anaheim Raiders". Come on, you know you want to see the return of the Raiders in Hollywood don't ya?!

Remember, Mark Davis has the name L.A. Raiders trademarked, but he (and the League) don't have ANAHEIM Raiders trademarked, so I say go for it!

    L.A. Galaxy vs. Anaheim Raiders

You know you want to see it!
