Galaxy's Landon Donovan earns MLS Player of the Week honor

August 12, 2013

Following his monster three-goal performance Sunday in a 3-3 draw with FC Dallas, Los Angeles Galaxy forward Landon Donovan was named MLS Player of the Week today. This is the 13th time that Donovan has received the honor since joining the Galaxy in 2005.

Donovan's hat trick brought his season total to six goals, and was the fourth time in his career that he has scored three goals in one game.

Playing his first league game for the Galaxy since leading the U.S. National Team to victory in the Gold Cup, Donovan's initial goal occurred in first half stoppage time when he headed a Robbie Keane ball past the Dallas keeper, and then tapped it in for a 1-1 score.

Donovan came through again in the 73rd minute with the Galaxy down 2-1, as he hit a left-footed strike to even things at 2-2.

Nine minutes later, Donovan completed his hat trick, taking a pass from Hector Jimenez and curling a clutch, right-footed shot inside the far post.

The Galaxy will next face Real Salt Lake at home on Saturday, August 17, at 7:30 p.m.
