The San Antonio Spurs made a late move at today's trade deadline, adding depth to their bench by acquiring forward Austin Daye from the Toronto Raptors in exchange for guard Nando De Colo.
At 6-11 and 200 pounds, Daye is neither strong nor athletic, but he is decently skilled and has range on his jump shot. With Kawhi Leonard still on the mend from his injuries, Daye provides some insurance for the Spurs at the 3.
Daye is a sub-par defender and rebounder, but could find a place in San Antonio's rotation with his ability to space the floor and hit threes. He will wear No. 23 for the Spurs.
Drafted 15th overall in the first round of the 2009 NBA Draft by Detroit, Daye has also suited up for the Memphis Grizzlies (2012-13) and Detroit Pistons (2009-13). In 245 career NBA games, Daye is averaging 5.6 points and 2.8 rebounds in 15.4 minutes.
With the emergence of guard Patty Mills this season, De Colo become largely expendable. He was not a regular fixture in the Spurs rotation.
De Colo was drafted by San Antonio with the 53rd overall pick in the second round of the 2009 NBA Draft. He appeared in 98 games for the Spurs over the past two seasons, holding averages of 4.0 points, 2.1 assists and 1.9 rebounds in 12.5 minutes.
