Dubai World Cup 2014: Jennifer Lopez expands profile with push into sports world

March 28, 2014

Dubai, UAE -- Actress and singer Jennifer Lopez has sold over 55 million records worldwide since her recording debut in 1999, and has starred in several Hollywood movies, but 2014 may be her year in sport.

The 44-year-old is taking on the sports world with a new song tied to the upcoming FIFA World Cup in Brazil, as well as a new show to be unveiled on March 29th following the Dubai World Cup.  At 10 million dollars, the Dubai World Cup is the world’s richest horse race.

The FIFA 2014 theme “We Are One” song also features Pitbull.  As for her upcoming performance, JLo has only made one previous appearance in the Middle East, also in Dubai.

In November 2012 she performed at the Dubai Media City Amphitheatre as part of her 'Dance Again'  campaign that also saw her open the world’s largest Audi Show room. Jennifer Lopez, who has been likened to Liz Taylor for her failed marriages, appeared in Dubai in 2012 with her boyfriend, Casper Smart. She has a networth of at least $250 million.

Previous performers at the Dubai World Cup include Elton John, Toni Braxton, Carlos Santana, and Seal, who was a last minute replacement in 2013 and was a hit with the thousands of fans.

Performing at a horse racing track like the Meydan is not without its challenges. In last year’s show, part of a performance caught on fire, an incident more humorous than harmful. The Dubai World Cup attracts 60,000 fans to the annual event, though the number usually thins out ahead of the musical performance.
