The Los Angeles Lakers today announced their roster invitees for the 2014 NBA Summer League, and in a treat for the team's fans, top draft pick Julius Randle (7th overall) is expected to play. Also featured on the squad are second round pick Jordan Clarkson (46th overall), returning Laker point guard Kendall Marshall, and speedy NBA vet Rodrigue Beaubois, a former Dallas Maverick who has played in 182 career games (54 starts) over four seasons.
The Lakers, who did not have a second round pick entering the 2014 NBA Draft, acquired the rights to Clarkson from the Washington Wizards in exchange for cash considerations. The 6’5’’ junior guard from Missouri was named Second Team All-SEC by the coaches in his lone season with the Tigers.
The Lakers Summer League team will also feature some players with local ties, including Anthony Ireland of LMU, and Renaldo Woolridge, son of the late former Laker Orlando Woolridge.
The team will hold its first practice next Monday, July 7, at the Toyota Sports Center, and will officially tipoff Summer League play Friday, July 11, in Las Vegas against the Toronto Raptors at 3:00 p.m.
For the second consecutive year, the event will feature a tournament-style schedule, culminating in the crowning of the NBA Summer League 2014 Champion on Monday, July 21.
Each of the participating teams will play three games apiece between July 11 and 15 before being seeded in the tournament, which tips off on July 16 and runs through the Championship Game on July 21. Each team will play a minimum of five games.
