Boxer Marcelino Lopez signs with Golden Boy Promotions

January 31, 2015

Golden Boy Promotions apparently does not want to ever repeat having its fighters under the control of Al Haymon or another mover-and-shaker in the fight game, as the company seemingly has been signing quality fighters at a record pace of late.

The latest to come to terms with Golden Boy is former WBC Latino Lightweight Champion, Marcelino Lopez, a 28-year-old from Buenos Aires, Argentina.

"I am glad to be working with Golden Boy Promotions, I feel that this is a great opportunity for me to be introduced to a larger boxing audience," said Lopez. "I am excited to see what 2015 will bring being part of a world recognized promotional company."

Lopez already has a strong career as a professional boxer in South America, winning and defending several titles and maintaining a near perfect record of 31-1-1 (15 KOs).

"Golden Boy Promotions continues to strengthen its roster of fighters and adding Marcelino Lopez to the team confirms the great plans we have to find the best talent to put on the best fights for the fans," said Oscar De La Hoya, President and Founder of Golden Boy Promotions.

Lopez, a current South American Super Lightweight belt holder, is looking to expand his fan base.  Fighting almost exclusively in Argentina, the hard-hitting puncher would like to fight soon in a world title match in North America.

"I am happy to continue working with Golden Boy Promotions," said Mario Arano, Lopez's manager. "They are family and have always chosen the best fights for their fighters. They have done a great job with Lucas Matthysse and trust that they will do an excellent job bringing international acclaim and notoriety to Marcelino Lopez."
