Los Angeles Dodgers announce 2015 broadcast teams

January 30, 2015

If the Los Angeles Dodgers' performance on the diamond and in the front office can come remotely close to matching the Hall of Fame on-air talent it will have in the broadcast booth this season, then the franchise should be in good shape.

Today, the Dodgers announced their 2015 broadcast teams, a somewhat bittersweet piece of news considering that the majority of the greater Los Angeles still cannot watch the games or listen to Vin Scully due to the team's ill-advised deal with Time Warner Cable.

Hall of Famer Vin Scully will return on SportsNet LA and Dodgers Radio AM570 KLAC, while Charley Steiner joins Rick Monday on AM570 KLAC and works with Orel Hershiser and Nomar Garciaparra on SNLA games in which Scully does not appear. Kevin Kennedy will be the analyst and Monday the play-by-play man on AM570 KLAC when Steiner moves into the TV booth.

In addition, AM570 KLAC’s DodgerTalk will be led by Kennedy and David Vassegh, who cover the team before and after each game.

Scully returns for his record 66th season in the booth. Scully calls the first three innings on radio in the simulcasts. Former Dodger outfielder Monday is entering his 23nd season as a Dodger broadcaster and enters his 31st season overall with the organization.

In a first for Spanish-language baseball broadcasts, Hall of Famer Jaime Jarrín will be joined by his son, Jorge, on Univision America 1020 (KTNQ). All games broadcast on SNLA in English will also be presented in Spanish with Pepe Yñiguez and Fernando Valenzuela. Manny Mota will contribute to both the Dodgers’ Spanish radio and TV broadcasts.

Jaime Jarrín will enter his 57th season in the Dodgers’ Spanish-language radio booth alongside son Jorge, who will be new to the broadcast. Jorge previously called games in Spanish on television for three years, including SNLA’s inaugural season.

Valenzuela, a local legend and 17-year Major League veteran, will enter his 13th season as a Dodger broadcaster and will now call games on SNLA in Spanish alongside Yñiguez who will begin his 17th season as a Dodger broadcaster. Mota, who enters his sixth season as a Dodger broadcaster, formerly served as an announcer on SNLA in Spanish. Mota will continue to broadcast on both Dodgers radio and TV in Spanish and will enter his 47th season overall with the Dodgers.

SNLA will have Scully calling games for the second consecutive season and its signature live daily studio show “Access SportsNet: Dodgers” will once again feature Garciaparra, John Hartung, Hershiser, Jerry Hairston Jr., Alanna Rizzo, and Steiner.

SNLA’s 2015 complete programming coverage for spring training and the regular season will be announced in the near future.
