LA Clippers" Blake Griffin to miss at least 3 weeks due to surgery

February 10, 2015

The Los Angeles Clippers announced that All-Star forward Blake Griffin underwent successful surgery today in Los Angeles to remove a staph infection in his right elbow.

The procedure was performed by Dr. Neal ElAttrache and assisted by Clippers team physician Dr. Steven Shimoyama. Griffin will be re-evaluated in three weeks at which time a further update will be provided.

Griffin is averaging 22.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, 5.1 assists while shooting 50.1 percent from the field in 35.3 minutes this season.

While the 25-year-old power forward will miss playing in the NBA All Star game this weekend in New York City -- his fifth selection in five seasons -- the Clippers will no doubt be thankful that their young star can use that break to recover without missing more games than necessary.

Playing without Griffin in Dallas on Monday night, the Clippers defeated the Mavericks 115-98 behind 22 points and 27 rebounds from center DeAndre Jordan.
