Dodgers announce co-ownership of radio station AM 570 with iHeartMedia Los Angeles

March 16, 2015

The Los Angeles Dodgers and iHeartMedia Los Angeles announced today the debut of the all-new AM 570 LA Sports, effective immediately. The station formerly known as KLAC will undergo a new name, a re-brand, and a re-launch with new co-owners -- the Los Angeles Dodgers.

“We are thrilled to partner with AM 570 LA Sports," said Stan Kasten, president and CEO of the Dodgers.  "We’ve had a wonderful relationship over the years and our new partnership will make it even stronger as we work together to bring Dodger fans the finest in LA Sports radio programming.”

The irony of the deal is that radio has never been more important to Southern California baseball fans because seventy percent of the city can no longer watch Dodger games due to the team's absurd television deal with Time Warner Cable.

So while it is good news to hear of more Dodgers access on the radio, it would be better news to hear of some progress in the television debacle.

Under this new arrangement, AM 570 LA Sports will be under the co-ownership of iHeartMedia Los Angeles and the Dodgers. The station will have a new logo and will also incorporate the new 2015 Dodgers slogan “We Love LA.”

The daily programming schedule for AM 570 LA Sports will begin with Dan Patrick from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m., followed by the newly-created LA Today with Bill Reiter and Leann Tweeden from 9 a.m. to noon. Jay Mohr will fill the noon to 3 p.m. slot, and the Petros and Money Show will be on from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Translated, that means one should tune in to hear Dan Patrick in the morning, turn off the radio from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. to avoid hearing the lesser quality shows that pass as "entertainment," and then come back to hear PMS in the afternoon.

Another new addition, Dodger Talk, an excellent program featuring David Vassegh and Kevin Kennedy, will now air immediately following Dodgers baseball games, or at 7 p.m. Monday through Friday. The show will air year-round starting with Spring Training and throughout the regular season to keep Dodger fans on top of the day’s Dodger news and activities.
