UCLA's Norman Powell named Pac-12 Player of the Week

UCLA senior guard Norman Powell has been named Pac-12 Men’s Basketball Player of the Week the Conference office announced today. The award is determined by a vote of media members who cover Pac-12 men’s basketball.

Also Nominated were Gabe York of Arizona, David Kravish of Cal, Dwayne Benjamin or Oregon, Gary Payton II of Oregon State, Michael Humphrey of Stanford, and DaVonté Lacy of Washington State.

Powell averaged 26.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 2.0 steals per game in UCLA’s two home victories last week to help the Bruins keep pace for a top-four finish in the Pac-12 standings.

Powell led the team in scoring with 24 points in an 88-66 win over Washington, adding seven rebounds, two assists and two steals. He followed with a career-high 28 points in a 72-67 victory against Washington State, marking the 13th 20-point-plus game for him this season. The senior shot 21-for-34 (.618) from the field and 9-for-13 (.692) from the free-throw line on the week. He currently stands at No. 34 on UCLA’s all-time scoring list with 1,279 career points.

The honor marks the San Diego native's  third-career weekly selection, having earned the honor twice so far this season. It is UCLA’s 60th weekly selection all-time.

The Bruins wrap up the regular season hosting rival USC on Wednesday, March 4 at 6 p.m.PT in a game that will be televised on ESPN2.
