Dallas Mavericks' Chandler Parsons out for season, Rajon Rondo out indefinitely

April 22, 2015

Already down 0-2 in their best-of-seven series to the Houston Rockets, the Dallas Mavericks were dealt another dose of bad news, as the team announced that forward Chandler Parsons is out for the remainder of the season with a right knee injury after being re-evaluated today.

Parsons, the Mavericks big free agent acquisition this past offseason, played 36 minutes in Game 1 at Houston, but produced only 10 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 assists.

Parsons (6-10, 230) is currently exploring surgical options.

In addition, guard Rajon Rondo sustained a back injury in last night’s game at Houston, and will be out indefinitely.  He is seeking additional medical opinions.

Rondo has clashed repeatedly with head coach Rick Carlisle since being acquired in a midseason trade with Boston.  In two playoff games versus Houston, Rondo has averaged 9.5 points, 3.0 assists, and 1.0 rebound in 18.6 minutes.

Rondo's injury will put a strain on the Mavericks' backcourt depth, as banged-up point guard Devin Harris is listed as probable for Game 3 on Friday after missing Game 2 himself with a left great toe injury.

That means Dallas will be counting heavily on reserves J.J. Barea and Ray Felton to play significant minutes at the point.

With Dwight Howard rounding into form, Josh Smith throwing dimes in last night's fourth quarter, and James Harden putting constant pressure on Dallas' defense, the Mavericks will have their work cut out for them on Friday.

Rockets' Jason Terry fined for flopping

Houston Rockets guard Jason Terry has been fined $5,000 by the NBA for violating the league’s anti-flopping rules during Game 2 of Houston’s first-round playoff series against the Dallas Mavericks.

The incident occurred with 6:25 remaining in the third quarter of Rockets’ 111-99 victory over the Mavericks last night at Toyota Center.
