LA Galaxy's Jaime Penedo earns MLS Player of the Week honor

April 14, 2015

After a spectacular performance Sunday at StubHub Center in which he shut out a powerful Seattle Sounders' offensive attack, Los Angeles Galaxy goalkeeper Jaime Penedo was voted Major League Soccer Player of the Week by the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) for the sixth week of the 2015 MLS season.  It is Penedo’s first time earning MLS Player of the Week honors.

His effort could not have come at a better time for the Galaxy, as the team had lost two straight games entering Sunday's match.

Penedo ended that streak and earned his 13th clean sheet with the Galaxy when he kept Seattle scoreless in a 1-0 victory behind 10 saves, a new career high. The veteran goalkeeper was one save shy of tying the Galaxy’s all-time single game club record of 11 saves set by Kevin Hartman in 2003. It marked the first time since 2009 that the Galaxy recorded 10 saves in a match.

In his career with the Galaxy, Penedo has made 41 starts in net, posting a 20-9-12 record while recording 124 saves, 13 shutouts and a 1.05 GAA.

The Galaxy are in action next when they host Sporting Kansas City at StubHub Center this Saturday, April 18 at 7:30 p.m. PT.
