Angels sign closer Huston Street to extension

May 13, 2015

The Los Angeles Angels solidified their bullpen for the next two seasons, signing righty closer Huston Street to a two-year contract extension, General Manager Jerry Dipoto announced today. The contract will take Street through the 2017 campaign, and includes a club option for the 2018 season.

Street, 31, is in his second season with the Halos after being acquired from San Diego in a midseason deal last year. In 14 appearances this season, the veteran reliever is 2-1 with 11 saves and a 3.29 ERA (13.2 IP – 5 ER). His 11 saves rank tied for second in the American League in 2015.

Street has appeared in 590 career games and has compiled a 38-30 lifetime record with 286 saves (332 save opportunities) and a 2.83 ERA (605 IP – 190 ER). He is a two-time All-Star and was the 2005 American League Rookie of the Year.

Across the last five seasons, he has successfully converted 137 of 149 save opportunities. In that span, the 91.9% conversion rate leads the Majors (min. 50 save opportunities). Since making his Major League debut in 2005, he is one of four relievers to record at least 200 saves and 600 strikeouts (also, Joe Nathan, Jonathan Papelbon and Francisco Rodriguez).
