Galaxy's Robbie Keane named MLS Player of the Week

July 7, 2015

Los Angeles Galaxy star forward Robbie Keane was voted Major League Soccer Player of the Week for Week 18 of the 2015 MLS season following his outstanding performance against Toronto FC this Saturday at StubHub Center.

Keane recorded three goals to give the Galaxy a 3-0 lead in front of a sold-out crowd at StubHub Center on July 4. It marked his first hat trick of this season, and the third of his Galaxy career.  He last scored three goals on August 17, 2013, against Real Salt Lake.

Keane opened the scoring in the ninth minute when he buried a penalty kick to give the Galaxy a 1-0 lead. He doubled the score in the 41st minute when he finished with one touch on a pass from midfielder Baggio Husidic.

Keane finished his scoring in the 59th minute when he intercepted a backwards pass from Toronto defender Justin Morrow, rounded the goalkeeper, and tapped it in an empty net to give the Galaxy a comprehensive 3-0 lead.

Keane now has 59 goals and 39 assists in 95 career MLS appearances for the Galaxy.  The 2014 MLS MVP has also added 16 game-winning goals and 16 game-winning assists since 2011.

The Galaxy and Keane will be in action this Saturday, July 11, at 8:30 p.m. PT when they host Club América at StubHub Center in the first game of the International Champions Cup. They return to MLS play on Friday, July 17, when they host the San Jose Earthquakes in a California Clásico rematch at the StubHub Center at 8 p.m. PT.
