Pistons sign point guard Reggie Jackson

July 20, 2015

The Detroit Pistons announced today that the team has re-signed guard Reggie Jackson to a multi-year contract.  While terms of the contract were not disclosed by the team, it is reportedly a 5-year, $80 million deal.

“We’re pleased to have reached an agreement with Reggie Jackson that will keep him with the organization for multiple years,” said Stan Van Gundy, Head Coach and President of Basketball Operations for the Detroit Pistons.  “Reggie is a team-first type player who developed great chemistry with our core players following his midseason acquisition.  We feel he has a tremendous future ahead of him and he’ll be a major contributor to our team moving forward.”

Jackson, 24, appeared in 77 games (40 starts) with Oklahoma City and Detroit last season averaging career highs in points (14.5 ppg), rebounds (4.2 rpg), assists (6.0 apg) and minutes (29.5 mpg).  He posted 17.6 points, 4.7 rebounds, 9.2 assists and 32.2 minutes in 27 games with Detroit, including an 11-game stretch from March 17 through April 4 where he averaged 20.6 points (.494 FG, .417 3FG), 10.8 assists and 5.7 rebounds while leading the club to a 7-4 record.  Among NBA league leaders, the 6-foot-3, 208-pound guard ranked 18th in assists per game (6.0) and T37th in free-throw percentage (.830).

The former Boston College product had one particularly impressive 10-day stretch this past season that undoubtedly helped convince the Pistons to invest so heavily in him.

On March 17th, Jackson recorded his first 20/20 game, going for 23 points and career-high 20 assists against the Memphis Grizzlies at home.  The following night (March 18th) Jackson recorded his first career triple-double with 11 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists at Philadelphia.  He followed that up nine days later with his second career triple-double at Orlando going for 26 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists.
