Galaxy's Giovani dos Santos named MLS Player of the Week

April 19, 2016

Los Angeles Galaxy forward Giovani dos Santos has been named Major League Soccer's Player of the Week for his performance in the Galaxy’s 4-1 win over the Houston Dynamo at BBVA Compass Stadium Friday evening. The Mexican international scored two goals and added an assist en route to the Galaxy’s first victory on the road this year.

After conceding a goal in the first minute of play, Dos Santos first leveled the match just three minutes later, finishing a loose ball past goalkeeper Joe Willis.

In the 31st minute, the forward added his second goal of the game when he controlled a pass from Steven Gerrard and slotted in a goal to the far post.

Just minutes into the second half, Dos Santos helped seal the game when he notched an assist on Gyasi Zardes’ goal to make the score 4-1.

Dos Santos’ two goals marked his first multi-goal MLS match with the Galaxy. With the goals and assist, he has now tallied five goals and seven assists in 13 MLS appearances since joining last year.

The MLS Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season by a panel of journalists, consisting of print, television, radio, and online media.
