Lakers' Rajon Rondo to miss 4-5 weeks following hand surgery

November 16, 2018

The Los Angeles Lakers backcourt was dealt a blow this week, as the team announced that point guard Rajon Rondo, who fractured the third metacarpal on his right hand in last night’s game against the Portland Trail Blazers, had successful surgery today to repair the fracture.

Rondo is expected to miss 4-5 weeks.

Rondo has been a vital member of the team early in the season, as his steady play and veteran presence in the locker room have helped bring stability to a team with a lot of new faces.  Head Coach Luke Walton has often utilized Rondo as the team's point guard down the stretch, and rightfully so, as youngster Lonzo Ball is still developing his game.

Fortunately, the Lakers have some familiarity with this situation already, as Rondo was out of the lineup earlier in the year when the league suspended him three games following his altercation with Houston Rockets' point guard Chris Paul.

With Rondo out, expect Ball to get heavy minutes at the point, with LeBron James, Josh Hart, and Brandon Ingram also sharing ballhandling duties as well.
