Mavericks sign center Boban Marjanovic

July 23, 2019

The Dallas Mavericks announced today that they have signed free agent center Boban Marjanović.  Other outlets have reported that the deal is for $7 million over two years.

Marjanović (7-3, 290) is a four-year veteran who holds career averages of 6.2 points, 3.9 rebounds and 9.8 minutes in 186 games (17 starts) with San Antonio, Detroit, the L.A. Clippers, and Philadelphia.  But don't let the numbers fool you, as Marjanovic is a skilled big man who can be highly effective in short stints off the bench.

At last season’s trade deadline, Marjanović was dealt from the Clippers to Philadelphia where he averaged a career-high 8.2 points, 5.1 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 13.9 minutes in 22 games with the Sixers before falling to the eventual World Champion Toronto Raptors in the Eastern Conference semifinals.

The Serbian center began his NBA journey when he signed a one-year contract with the San Antonio Spurs on July 17, 2015. After one year with the Spurs, he became a restricted free agent and was signed by the Detroit Pistons on July 12, 2016. In January of 2018, Marjanović was traded, along with Tobias Harris, Avery Bradley and future draft picks, to the Los Angeles Clippers in a blockbuster deal that sent Blake Griffin to Detroit.

He was a three-time Serbian Super League Most Valuable Player (2013-15) and All-EuroLeague First Team in 2015.
