Cal's Cobbs Named Pac-12 Men's Basketball Player of the Week

February 20, 2012

California guard Justin Cobbs has been named Pac-12 Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, Commissioner Larry Scott announced today.

The sophomore from Los Angeles helped guide the Bears to a home sweep of the Oregon schools, starting with a 86-83 victory over Oregon on Thursday. Cobbs had a career-best 28 points in that contest, and dished out eight assists. He also tied a career-high with four steals.

On Saturday, Cobbs registered the second double-double of his collegiate career with a career-high 13 assists and 10 points in Cal’s 77-63 win over Oregon State. His 13 assists against the Beavers marked the first time a Golden Bear has reached that number since Jason Kidd in 1994.

Over the two games, Cobbs averaged 19 points, 10.5 assists, and shot .615 from the field.

This is Cobb’s first career Pac-12 Player of the Week honor. Other nominees included Arizona's Kyle Fogg; Colorado's Andre Roberson; Oregon's Devoe Joseph; Stanford's Josh Owens; UCLA's Travis Wear; and Washington's Terrence Ross.

Cal next faces Utah on the road on Thursday, February 23, at 6 p.m. PT.
