Galaxy's Robbie Keane is named MLS Player of the Week

August 19, 2013

Los Angeles Galaxy forward Robbie Keane's impressive season continues to roll right along, as today he was named as the MLS Player of the Week. The honor was the first of Keane's MLS career and was the second consecutive week in which a Galaxy player has won the award. Landon Donovan won it the prior week.

Keane produced his second hat trick of the year in Saturday’s 4-2 win over Real Salt Lake, scoring all three of his clutch goals in the second half. He now has 10 on the season.

Only minutes after Real Salt Lake had taken a 1-0 lead, Keane battled defender Carlos Salcedo and nailed a right-footed shot just inside the post from the top of the box, tying the score at 1-1.

Keane then put LA ahead 2-1 in the 67th minute, beating Salcedo to the near post and volleying a Sean Franklin cross past Nick Rimando from six yards out.

Keane later would put the icing on the cake in the 86th minute, racing between RSL’s two central defenders to get to a through ball before lobbing it in for a 4-1 advantage.

On Tuesday, August 20, Keane and the Galaxy will open CONCACAF Champions League play against Costa Rican side Cartagines at home.
