Veteran boxer Zab Judah joins Golden Boy Promotions

August 19, 2013

Veteran southpaw Zab "Super" Judah (42-8, 29 KO's) has decided to join the stable of boxers at Golden Boy in a joint venture with his own Super Judah Promotions in which both companies will co-promote the popular fighter's bouts.

"Super Judah Promotions and Golden Boy Promotions working together is phenomenal," said Judah. "I have been doing business with Golden Boy Promotions for a number of years, working both with them and against them and I know what it's like to be on both sides. Through those times, I see that we are a perfect fit. This joint venture will give me the experience I need as a promoter and get me the big fights I want at this point of my career."

Judah will bring his loyal and fairly large Brooklyn fanbase with him to Golden Boy, as well as a still-relevant set of skills.

In his recent competitive decision loss to Danny Garcia, Judah proved that he can be a factor at both the 140 and 147-pound divisions, as he staged a late rally and showed great heart against Garcia in the "championship" rounds of that fight.

His performance versus Garcia was a significant improvement over his lopsided loss to Amir Khan, and demonstrated that he has a lot left in the tank.

Even at this advanced stage of his career, Judah has retained his fast hands and has good pop in his signature counter left uppercut, but even more interesting has been his improved mental toughness and attitude of late.

In the Garcia fight, Judah was hurt early and eventually suffered a knockdown. In his younger days, Judah might have looked for an excuse to quit, become discouraged, or both. Instead, Judah displayed a newfound determination that helped counter the alleged "frontrunner" label given to him by Floyd Mayweather years ago.

"I am very happy to welcome Zab to the Golden Boy team," said Richard Schaefer, CEO of Golden Boy Promotions. "He is without question not only one of the most exciting fighters in boxing, but he also has tremendous name recognition with reaches into the general market. In his thrilling fight against Danny Garcia, Zab showed that he belongs in the absolute top level of the sport. I am looking forward to be working with Zab and his team and have him participate in the biggest fights in the junior welterweight and welterweight divisions."

A five-time world champion with titles in the junior welterweight and welterweight divisions, Judah owns victories over Micky Ward, Junior Witter, DeMarcus Corley, Cory Spinks, and Lucas Matthysse. Winner of six of his last eight bouts, Judah has yet to announce an opponent for his next fight.
