Top Rank signs Brazilian silver medalist boxer Esquiva Falcao

November 14, 2013

Boxing promotional company Top Rank announced today that it has signed another prospect from the 2012 Olympics in middleweight silver medalist Esquiva Falcao of Brazil. Falcao, a 23-year-old southpaw, will make his professional debut in early 2014.

"We are thrilled that Esquiva has joined Top Rank. He has so much talent and we look forward to letting that talent shine on an international stage," said Todd duBoef, president of Top Rank. "Brazil boasts a robust media market and a rabid fan base. There is a reason why Brazil is hosting the 2014 FIFA World Cup and the 2016 Summer Olympics. We look forward to using those platforms in promoting Esquiva."

Top Rank recently has made a concerted effort to expand its reach globally. Not only has it promoted boxing cards in Macau -- including this month's Pacquiao-Rios bout -- but it has also signed several former international Olympic prospects to its stable of fighters.

Among those Olympians already on Top Rank's roster are Zou Shiming of China, Vasyl Lomachenko of Ukraine, Ryota Murata of Japan, Egor Mekhhontcev of Russia, American Jose Ramírez, Puerto Rican Felix Verdejo, and Mexican Óscar Valdez.

Murata is a gold medalist who defeated Falcao in the Olympic final.  Shiming, Lomachenko, and Mekhhontcev are gold medalists as well.
