The Anaheim Ducks filled a need today for their anticipated postseason run, announcing that the club has acquired defenseman Stephane Robidas from the Dallas Stars in exchange for a conditional fourth-round selection in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft.
The 5-11, 190-pound defenseman has been sidelined for 37 games this season with a broken leg, which he suffered on November 29.
The veteran is in the final year of his four-year contract, and should provide the Ducks with the defensive toughness they need in the playoffs, provided he can regain his health. The Ducks currently have the best record in the NHL.
Robidas, 37, has scored (55-191) 246 points with a +5 rating and 671 penalty minutes in 871 career NHL games with Montreal, Dallas, and Chicago. A 2009 NHL All-Star, Robidas set career highs in goals (10), assists (31), points (41) while appearing in all 82 games for the second time in his career in 2009-10. He has also appeared in 44 career Stanley Cup Playoff games, earning 15 points with 42 penalty minutes.
Robidas also ranked fourth among NHL defensemen leaders in hits (136) and led Dallas in blocked shots (93) and time-on-ice (1,067:27) in 2012-13.
