Oregon Ducks Men's Basketball signs 6'10" Israeli recruit Roman Sorkin

January 6, 2015

The Oregon Ducks Men's Basketball program received an immediate boost to its frontline depth today, as Israeli Junior National Team player Roman Sorkin signed an agreement of financial aid and will join the team this week, head coach Dana Altman announced. Sorkin, 18, will be a freshman and eligible to play immediately.

“Roman already has a solid skill set from his international experience and still has a tremendous amount of potential for growth,” said Altman.

Sorkin is a 6-10 forward from Minsk, Belarus, with significant international experience.  He averaged 14.1 points, 9.9 rebounds, and 1.7 blocks per game for Israel at the 2014 U-18 European Championships. He shot 51.7 percent from the field and 81.2 percent from the free throw line during the tournament.  He scored 25 points in a win over Hungary, and grabbed 24 rebounds (15 offensive)  against Estonia.

It was the third straight year that Sorkin played in the European Championships for Israel.

Sorkin has shown the ability to score both inside and out, at least at the international level.
