LA Galaxy sign forward Alan Gordon

January 6, 2015

In a move designed to preserve the team's depth, the Los Angeles Galaxy re-signed forward and super sub Alan Gordon, the club announced. Gordon joined the club last August in a trade with the San Jose Earthquakes in exchange for allocation money.

Last season, Gordon, 33, played a vital offensive role for the club mostly off the bench, scoring five goals and adding an assist during the Galaxy’s run to their fifth MLS Cup trophy.

He made 14 MLS Regular Season appearances last season, starting in five matches. One of his five goals included the game winner in the Galaxy’s 2-1 win over FC Dallas Sept. 20. Gordon also played in all five of the Galaxy’s MLS Cup Playoff matches last year, including the 2014 MLS Cup.

A member of the Galaxy from 2004-2010, Gordon won his second MLS Cup this year with the club, previously capturing the 2005 MLS Cup with LA.

A Southern California native, Gordon was with the San Jose Earthquakes since 2011. During his time with the club, he scored 23 times in MLS, including a career-high 13 goals and seven assists in 2012 that helped lead the Earthquakes to winning the Supporters’ Shield. The 11-year MLS veteran has also spent time with Chivas USA (2010) and Toronto FC (2011).

As a member of the Galaxy from 2004-2010, Gordon scored 16 goals and added 12 assists in over 80 appearances. He was a part of the squads that captured an MLS Cup (2005), Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup (2005) and two Western Conference championships (2005, 2009).
