Los Angeles Galaxy sign Robbie Keane to a contract extension

June 10, 2015

The Los Angeles Galaxy have signed forward Robbie Keane to a contract extension, the club announced today. Specific terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“We’re very pleased Robbie will continue to be a member of the Galaxy in the coming years,” said LA Galaxy Head Coach and General Manager Bruce Arena in a statement. “He has been one of the key pieces in our success over the past five seasons. We look forward to even more success with Robbie as a member of our team.”

The reigning Major League Soccer MVP, Keane has helped bring three championships to the team during his tenure.

In his Galaxy career, Keane has made 91 appearances with 86 starts, has scored 55 goals, and has recorded 36 assists with 15 game-winning goals and 16 game-winning assists.

He is coming off a career year last season after notching 19 goals and 14 assists. Additionally, the Irishman has nine MLS Cup Playoff goals and six MLS Cup Playoff assists while recording either a goal or assist in each of the Galaxy’s last three MLS Cup Championships (2011, 2012, 2014).

Keane, 34, has seen his playing time drop this season, as he has thus far been limited by nagging injuries.

Keane is Ireland’s captain and all-time leading scorer with 65 international goals. During his prolific international career, he has earned the Football Association of Ireland’s Senior Player of the year two times. His 139 career caps for his country since 1998 are the most in Ireland’s history.
